Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM)?
Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) is a New Healthcare Technology that enables Medicare Members to stay on top of their health between office visits. RPM uses remote digital technologies to monitor and analyze a Member’s vitals and other health data outside of a traditional clinical setting.
2) Why Is RPM Important?
RPM enables Members to monitor and take charge of their personal health by “measuring vitals daily” at home which can indicate certain health trends and sudden changes. This Medicare Approved Program enables Members to become Health Aware.
3) What does RPM Actually Do?
With the use of remote medical devices, RPM technology electronically measures, captures, and transmits a Member’s “vitals” to a HIPAA compliant website for review by Medical staff and others with Member authorization.
4) What medical devices are used for the RPM program?
Each Member is provided a Computer Tablet that wirelessly connects to the following four (4) devices to capture a Member’s vitals:
1. Blood Pressure Monitor (blood pressure),
2. Pulse Oximeter (blood oxygen),
3. Weight Scale (body weight),
4. Blood Glucose Monitor (blood glucose).
5) What are some of the benefits of using RPM?
RPM provides a wide range of benefits, including:
- Medicare Members are more informed and focused on their personal health.
- RPM enables older and at-risk individuals to remain at home longer and delay or avoid moving into skilled nursing facilities.
- - Improved management of acute and chronic conditions
- - Reduced hospitalizations and readmissions
- - Reduced hospital lengths of stay
- - Lowered overall healthcare costs
